The firm has held a first close on Aligned Solar Partners 7, targeting $500m for construction-ready distributed solar and storage projects, more than double the size of its previous fund.

Aligned Climate Capital, a decarbonisation-focused investment firm, has launched its seventh infrastructure fund and completed a first close. Aligned Solar Partners 7 buys and develops distributed solar and energy storage projects across the United States. The target is $500m, against the $240m its predecessor raised when it closed in 2025.

Peter Davidson, chief executive of Aligned Climate Capital, said: “Distributed solar and energy storage are now among the fastest ways to add reliable capacity to the grid, and the middle market is where much of that build-out actually happens. These projects need specialized financing and execution, which is what we have built the firm to do. The continued support from our investors gives us the capital to keep acquiring and building construction-ready projects.”

为什么时机合适

US electricity demand is rising for the first time in decades. Data centre expansion, industrial reshoring and transport electrification are all pulling on the grid at once. New gas capacity faces multi-year waits for turbine deliveries, so solar and storage can be financed, permitted and built faster than most of the alternatives.

That speed advantage is doing a lot of work in the investment case, because the constraint on new American generation is increasingly the queue rather than the cost. Federal policy in the United States has turned against renewables over the past year, and the raise suggests institutional appetite for behind-the-meter and community-scale assets has held up regardless.

A middle-market strategy

Aligned Climate started the Aligned Solar Partners strategy in 2018. It buys construction-ready middle-market solar and storage projects from development partners, finances the build, then manages the assets through operations. That places the firm between project developers and the large infrastructure funds that prefer utility-scale assets.

Since then the ASP funds have acquired 56 projects across 10 states, which have produced more than 218 GWh of clean energy. Aligned Climate says it has already identified more than 500 MW of potential projects for the new vehicle, so the pipeline is in place before the fund reaches its target.
