OceanaGold Philippines Inc. (OGPI) and Holcim Philippines have initiated a collaborative effort to evaluate the feasibility of using mine tailings in cement production.
Holcim Philippines will start by collecting tailing samples from OGPI for preliminary testing, as part of its ‘circular economy’ initiative that incorporates waste materials into cement production processes.
Both companies are dedicated to progressing this study, which hinges on formal partnership arrangements and the acquisition of necessary permits.
OGPI President Joan Adaci-Cattiling remarked, “We’re just waiting for the permit. Right now, we’ve found a way to put mine tailings to good use.”
