Rémy Cointreau announces a three-year partnership with Intact to integrate eco-friendly, plant-based alcohol into its Cointreau liqueur, showcasing a commitment to sustainability in premium spirits.
Rémy Cointreau, a renowned player in the world of premium spirits, has unveiled an innovative collaboration with Intact, a French agricultural technology company, to produce eco-friendly alcohol, furthering the brand’s commitment to sustainable practices. This strategic alliance aims to integrate low-carbon, plant-based alcohol into Rémy Cointreau’s product line, specifically for its iconic Cointreau liqueur.
This partnership is poised to commence in January 2026 and will span three years, during which Rémy Cointreau will incorporate Pulse alcohol technology into the creation of its orange liqueur. Pulse technology, a novel innovation developed in 2022, harnesses the ecological benefits of legumes. These crops naturally absorb atmospheric nitrogen, fashioning a renewable and reduced-carbon footprint source of alcohol. Through this process, the company anticipates a reduction in its overall carbon emissions by about 5%, equating to approximately 1,200 tonnes of CO2 annually.
Pulse alcohol will become a significant component of Rémy Cointreau’s production, supplying at least 20,000 hectolitres each year, which constitutes approximately 40% of the company’s neutral alcohol needs. This transition aligns with the firm’s broader environmental goals, combining high-quality spirit production with ecological mindfulness.
Mélanie Bouloudre, Directors of Operations and Group Social and Environmental Responsibility at Rémy Cointreau, articulated the synergy of this initiative, praising it as a fusion of premium quality and environmental accountability. The partnership underscores Rémy Cointreau’s dedication to forging environmentally sustainable paths within the luxury spirits sector, a trend that’s gaining traction across the industry.
Moreover, this collaboration supports sustainable agricultural practices by cultivating 3,000 hectares of legumes in France’s Centre Val de Loire region. Intact’s co-founder and president, Alexis Duval, emphasised the importance of legume development for French agriculture, highlighting its dual benefits of addressing food sovereignty and mitigating climate change impacts.
The production of this eco-conscious alcohol will be centred at Intact’s new facility in Baule, slated to commence operations in late 2025. This initiative represents a critical progression for Rémy Cointreau, marrying its storied heritage with a forward-thinking approach to environmental stewardship. It reflects a broader movement within the premium spirits industry, where the focus on sustainable luxury continues to strengthen.
