Swedish firm EcoDataCenter has raised €450 million through its owner, Areim, to expand its network of green data centres. The funding adds momentum to the company’s mission to make digital infrastructure more climate-friendly.
EcoDataCenter opened its first site in 2019. Since then, it has focused on combining cutting-edge technology with low-carbon operations. The company aims to lead the shift toward more sustainable data processing as global demand for computing power rises.
Together, Areim and EcoDataCenter have now secured around €1.2 billion in funding over two years. “We are establishing one of the most exciting companies in the Nordics. Through our platform, we have established partnerships with some of the world’s leading companies, which creates great investor confidence in what we do,” said Peter Michelson, CEO of EcoDataCenter.
The company is also moving deeper into AI. In 2024, it partnered with AI hyperscaler CoreWeave to build one of Europe’s largest AI clusters in Falun. The site is designed to support energy-intensive machine learning while keeping emissions low.
To support further growth, EcoDataCenter recently acquired a new site with capacity of over 240 MW. The location will enable the company to build additional facilities as demand grows.
“It is a strong confirmation of our ability to raise capital of this scale. We will continue to drive the market for how digital infrastructure should be built together with our customers,” said Leif Andersson, founder of Areim and Chairman of EcoDataCenter.
The company says the new capital will strengthen its growth and support the green transition in the data centre industry—where environmental impact is increasingly under scrutiny.
